Wael Refai is a physician who completed training in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and is Board certified in Internal Medicine. He completed training in Gastroenterology, Transplant Hepatology and liver disease treatment. He is Board certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Wael worked several years as Gastroenterologist with the Center for Digestive Health of Rochester Hills and practiced in Beaumont Hospitals in Troy & Royal Oak. Before that, he worked as a Medical Director of Liver Transplant, which enabled him to support establishing two Liver Transplant Programs; the first program had been in Little Rock, Arkansas and the most recent one has been in Michigan at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Wael is an Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He has contributed to research in nutrition and collaborated in writing a medical reference on the subject.
In addition to his skills as internist, gastroenterologist and hepatologist, Wael focuses on caring for liver disease patients with particular interests in Hepatitis C, Colorectal cancer screening, GERD , overweight and fatty liver management. Wael speaks Arabic fluently in addition to English.
Wael is married to Aya Refai, MD Board certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity and they reside with their three children in Bloomfield Hills.
